Kaneka Green Planet® Compounds are biopolymers in the family of PHAs or Polyhydroxyalkanoates.
Kaneka Green Planet grades arepolyesters produced from materials found in nature using numerous microorganisms including bacteria that can be found in soil. Kaneka Green Planet grades are produced via an innovative bio-fermentation process using plants as feedstock.
What makes Kaneka Green Planet compounds so different is that Kaneka, through a proprietary patented process, combines 2 monomers together: 3-Hydroxyhexanoate with 3-Hydroxybutyrate to make different types of Kaneka Green Planet. The concentration of each monomer during the polymerization process will create a different type of copolymer that can lead to different types of applications.
This technique allows us to custom create multiple grades of Kaneka Green Planet that will mimic a wide variety of traditional plastic shapes. This also makes Kaneka Green Planet resin marine biodegradable*, soil biodegradable, and compostable. Kaneka Green Planet grades have many superior advantages when compared with other biopolymers.
Why was it created?
Worldwide Current Plastic Statistic
World production of plastic: 400+ Million Metric Tons per year
Plastic recycling rate: only 9%
Plastic produced for packaging: 40-50%
